Anglo-Saxon: This period covers the time from the period that the Roman’s left, generally considered to be 410 AD up until the Norman Conquest of 1066. A very interesting period with the migration of the Germanic tribes of Angles, Saxons, Jutes and others. It was also during this time that we had the Christianisation of Britain as well as the Viking invasions.
This time is also described as The Early Middle Ages.

Archaeology: This part of the catalogue covers a multitude of times & regions, looking at the past both in passing and in great detail, covering Pre-History onwards.

Middle Ages: This period for the catalogue covers the time from the period of the Norman Conquest until about the start of the 16th century, though the full Middle Age period starts from the decline of Roman Britain in 410 AD. A Period of great change in every aspect of life, from religion, military life, succession, government & everyday living.

This time is also described as The High Middle Ages (1066-1300) & The Late Middle Ages (1300-1500).

Roman World: This period is primarily looking at all things to do with Rome especially the Roman North of Britain up-to about 410 AD for  Britain.

This catalogue is sparse at the moment but will be filled out over time.

Northumbria: Northumbria was at it’s prime in about  the mid 7th century to the mid 8th century both culturally & in importance. This part of the catalogue primarily looks at the History & events in this region which is a lot larger than present day Northumberland.

Religion: This covers all religions though primarily it focuses on the Anglo-Saxon, Medieval, Byzantine & Crusade times. During this time religion was an integral part of everyday life so some items are both in this catalogue & in those of the Anglo-Saxon and Middle Ages.
